The Glastonbury Alcohol and Drug Council (GLAD) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Glastonbury Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to sponsor the “GLAD Saves” program. This community initiative serves two purposes: First to provide a free, anonymous and untraceable “Tip Line” phone number to report underage drinking parties and second, to act as a local merchant discount savings program. “GLAD Saves” cards will be distributed throughout the community and merchants are encouraged to join this youth-driven initiative.
“This program brings together our teens, our police department and our prevention council to combine forces to address underage drinking prevention in a very tangible and positive way,” explained Allison Behnke, Glastonbury Youth and Family Services. “We want every person in Glastonbury to have a GLAD Saves card in their wallet so that the Tip Line phone number is always right at hand. Best of all, the GLAD Saves card will not only help save a life, it will provide instant savings at participating Glastonbury businesses.”
The GLAD Saves card cardholders may present the card at participating merchants to receive a special discount or promotional offer. In addition, the reverse of the card has information on the Glastonbury Underage Drinking Party Tip Line (860-652-4239). The Tip Line is a free resource to call to report an underage drinking party or for teens who are at a party that’s gotten out of control and don’t know what to do. Adults who learn of an underage drinking party are encouraged to call the number, as well. All calls are untraceable and anonymous.
Teens from the Youth Advisory Council have already signed up four merchants and will be encouraging local businesses to show support for Glastonbury’s efforts to reduce underage drinking by participating in the GLAD Saves discount program.
